It's probably true that one wouldn't always want the pure "music" of the later tours. It would be laid bare how great the decline was. More keyboard, audience, provided a mask, more diluted "white noise".
I am quite sure that starting in the late 80's that they actually muddied up the sound to mask things. I recall being at RFK '90 (just one example) and the sound was OK, but during Drums and Space they had it crystal clear... Even when Brent sung, it was clearer than when Bobby or Jerry did... This got even worse as Bobby started loosing his voice (evident in the later renditions of Estimate profit, arghhhhh)

This thread reminds me of the old joke: "What does a deadhead say when he finally comes down off of all the doses?"

Answer: This band sucks... (just kidding, kind of....) :-)

LOL!! Vince would be the answer if the original post had asked why everything after summer of '90 was cluttered up with all those cheesy keyboard sounds....nothing like twittering bird sounds and farfisa organ marches to "enhance" that GD sound. But that wasn't what the post was about, and I certainly won't use this as an opportunity to "talk smack" about Mr. Welnick. No sir, I will NOT.
